The need for a book about the Japanese experience in Hawaiʻi brought together the co-authors, who are themselves Hawaiian Nisei mothers and teachers to collaborate on this book. In the process they became increasingly aware of the abiding sense of appreciation that the Japanese have for the past and its effect on the present.
