Navient Hawaiians wehe remarkable at observing their environment, in particular the moon or mahina. They paid close attention to the moon phases and gave each of the 30 phases a name. They watched how the moon affected the land and sea, and used it to determine when to fish, plant, and gather. The moon is still used today by many fishermen and farmers.
