Emma K. Kauhi
Translation by Charles M. Langlas
softcover, 136 pp.
Historical account by one of Hawai`i’s better known kupuna (elder) Emma K. Kauhi, a re-telling of her own experiences of growing up within the area of Kapa`ahu in the Puna district of the island of Hawai`i. Translated from recordings of Mrs. Kauhi to Hawaiian language classes at the University of Hawai`i at Hilo in 1989-1990. The first half of the book is composed in Hawaiian with translation into English in the second half, interestingly enough, Emma Kauhi decided to translate the last story herself, a must for Hawaiian language enthusiasts and a wealth of knowledge that should be partaken.
